This plane flies from London to New York in 80 minutes

This plane flies from London to New York in 80 minutes

A Spanish designer has unveiled a jaw-dropping design for a new supersonic plane that could get from London to New York in 80 minutes. The idea uses a combination of theoretical cold fusion nuclear systems and innovative Mach 3.5 technology. Mach is the ratio of the speed of a body to the speed of sound – Mach 1 is the speed of sound, Mach 2 is twice the speed of sound, and so on. The plane would shoot through airspace at almost 2,500mph – almost five times the current average speed of commercial passenger planes that take up to eight hours to complete the journey from London to New York. If plans for the jet came to fruition, it would take just 80 minutes to complete the popular transatlantic route. This would power two ramjet engines and four next gen hybrid… Source link

The nuclear-powered ‘Hyper Sting’ could whisk travelers from London to New York in 80 minutes

The nuclear-powered ‘Hyper Sting’ could whisk travelers from London to New York in 80 minutes

Imagine flying from London to New York for a lunch meeting, and being home again in time for tea. Well, that could soon become a reality for transatlantic business travelers if one aviation designer gets his way. Don’t pack your bags just yet, though. Want more airline-specific news? Sign up for TPG’s free biweekly Aviation newsletter. Spanish designer Oscar Viñals claims his latest invention could spirit passengers across the Atlantic at three times the speed of sound, making a trip from Britain’s capital to the Big Apple in less than 80 minutes flat. The theatrically named “Hyper Sting” would not only be twice as fast as London-to-New York record-holder Concorde — which managed the route in two hours and 53 minutes — but it would also be almost twice the size. At 328 feet… Source link

Supersonic Jet Break Records With A Flight From London To New York In 80 Minutes – Travel Radar

Supersonic Jet Break Records With A Flight From London To New York In 80 Minutes – Travel Radar

Hyper Sting, remember this name as the Supersonic jet designed by Spanish designer Oscar Viñales. If you’re having second thoughts about going to work on the other continent, that’s no longer a problem. Your transatlantic flight from London to New York could take 80 minutes if you climb aboard this incredible supersonic aircraft. ©Concorde The concept aircraft is hoped to hit speeds of more than 2,600mph – twice as fast as the legendary Concorde. What is the Concorde? The first commercial supersonic passenger aircraft (or supersonic transport, SST) was built jointly by the aircraft manufacturers of Britain and France. Concorde made its first transatlantic crossing on 26 September 1973 and inaugurated the world-first scheduled supersonic passenger service on 21 January 1976. … Source link

Nuclear Hyper Sting jet could take you from London to New York in 80 mins

Nuclear Hyper Sting jet could take you from London to New York in 80 mins

The future of flights from London to New York could be relatively quick, thanks to the idea of a supersonic nuclear-powered plane. Flying from these two cities in just 80 minutes, the plane, called the Hyper Sting, is a concept dreamt up by Spanish designer Oscar Viñals. The imagined plane, which could have 170 passengers, would be almost twice as large and travel twice as fast as the last commercial supersonic jet, the Concorde. The plane stopped ceased flights in 2003. The Hyper Sting, at 328ft, would be over 100ft longer than Concorde and have a much wider wingspan of 169ft (Concorde 85ft). “Concorde was a brilliant piece of machinery, a noble experiment, but it put too much emissions in the environment, too much noise into our communities, and was too expensive to operate,” the… Source link

New plane could fly London to New York in 80 minutes at 'three times speed of sound' – The Mirror

New plane could fly London to New York in 80 minutes at 'three times speed of sound' – The Mirror

A new plane design could mean that flights between London and New York take just 80 minutes in coming decades. The 328ft-long Hyper Sting supersonic plane could hold up between 130-170 passengers and in theory it could reach a maximum speed of 2,664 mph. For context, Concorde reached speeds of up to 1,354 mph. Spanish designer Oscar Viñals is behind the design, which he says could travel at up to three times the speed of sound, reports the Daily Star. He explains that a Mach 3.5 capability would be thanks to innovative systems like a so-far theoretical ‘cold fusion nuclear reactor’. This would power two ramjet engines and four next gen hybrid turbojets. Inside the Hilton space hotel opening in 2027 with suites that orbit Earth The plane would be faster… Source link

Supersonic Jet Hyper Sting would fly from NYC to London in just 80 minutes

A newly designed supersonic jet would be able to fly passengers from New York City to London in just 80 minutes. Dubbed the Hyper Sting, the conceptual plane would be nearly twice as large and travel twice as fast as the world’s last commercial supersonic jet, Concorde, which was retired in 2003. The Hyper Sting, at 328 feet long with a 168-foot wingspan, would dart up to 170 passengers across the Atlantic and beyond at speeds of 2,486mph — more than three times the speed of sound. “Concorde was a brilliant piece of machinery, a noble experiment, but it put too many emissions in the environment, too much noise into our communities, and was too expensive to operate,” the Spanish designer of the craft, Oscar Viñals, told The U.S. Sun.
