Nazeer leads Blairmont Blazers to victory over Cold Fusion

A pugnacious half century from Zameer Nazeer steered Blairmont Blazers to a six-wicket win over Cold Fusion yesterday at Tuchen, East Bank Essequibo. The friendly encounter saw Cold Fusion winning the toss and electing to bat. The hosts brought the heat and piled on 142 for seven from their allotted 12 overs but that was not enough for the West Berbice side which raced to 146 for three with five balls to spare. Leading the chase was Nazeer, who clubbed eight sixes and three fours on his way to a top score of 64. Nazeer entered the crease with Blazers already one down and on 24 after Marvan Prashad was dismissed for 10 and went on to add 83 for the second wicket with  Kevon Jawahir. Jawahir played the supporting role with an unbeaten 23, highlighted by two fours and one six. Source link

Musician eager to strike up band | Living

Quincy Sanders is not alone in wanting the pandemic to go away. The Fort Wayne saxophonist-songwriter-music teacher-studio musician-live performer has seen the number of gigs he performs dwindle to a few wedding receptions and private parties. He’s even had to look for jobs outside the Fort Wayne area. “I know that COVID-19 has affected a lot of people. In fact, a friend of mine normally plays at venues across the country and in Europe. But with the travel restrictions, she now has no work at all,” Sanders says. “I toured the Midwest the last three summers with her, but not this year. I guess I’m fortunate to be able to stay somewhat active and be able to make ends meet … so far. A lot of the gigs have been outside where it’s easier to social distance.” The… Source link

Pseudoscience moving into the mainstream | Opinion

The death of magician and debunker of frauds James Randi was a reminder that even pseudoscience and charlatanry used to come from a kinder world. Randi’s arch-antagonist was the ‘psychic’ Uri Geller, who always seemed to be on 1970s chat shows bending spoons with the power of his mind. I came across Randi (and witnessed a demonstration of his stage magic) while working for Nature after the journal had just published the notorious ‘memory of water’ paper by French immunologist Jacques Benveniste. The editor enlisted the magician to join the team that travelled to the French labs to witness a (failed) attempt to replicate the studies in which a biological molecule was said to retain its activity after being diluted to the point of total absence. That is now seen as one of… Source link

The US Desperately Needs New Election Tech. Here’s One Option

I know you don’t want to hear about how blockchain technology can fix elections, solve cold fusion, restore trust to America, bring global peace, and invent a new way to slice bread. I’m pretty tired of the blockchain hype cycle too. Many are wearing “I voted” pins to show they voted in the 2020 U.S. national election. Photo by visuals on Unsplash But if there’s one thing that proves current election technology is essentially trash, it’s the 2020 U.S. presidential election. Days later, we still don’t know for sure who won or lost, there are allegations about fraud or miscounts, and multiple legal challenges to the results already. Baseless or not, our current election process and technology invites challenge and provides fodder for… Source link

Successful Web Design Companies, Part 1

Creating a quote for a job is a difficult task if you are a part of or manage a web design company. Putting a price on your skills can be complicated. You do not want to charge too much, but you want to make the job worth your time. You have to consider everything from how much you will need to outsource to what the job requirements are. Meanwhile, the only thing the person you are working for is concerned about is how much the project is going to cost. One of the easiest ways to handle this is to break it down into who does what job at your web design company. The first category of jobs has to do with the creative process that goes into creating a website. This might include graphic designers, copy writers, or flash developers. Many people who use website design company… Source link
