Allen, Glen Frank | Obituaries

Allen, Glen Frank | Obituaries

Allen Glen Frank Allen Glen Frank Allen took his last breath surrounded by friends at home in Pocatello on March 28, 2021, age 73. Born in Ithaca, New York on November 20, 1947, Glen lived a remarkable and unique life. Glen was brilliant yet down to earth, principled, gentle, capable and generous. He will be missed by his family and many friends. No doubt Glen was smart. In 1965, he met President Johnson and received a medal as Idaho’s Presidential Scholar for that year. He also won the Idaho State Science Fair, inventing a slide rule that converts from Base-10 to binary. Soon after, he left Pocatello on a full ride to Cornell University, where his grandfather Arthur had founded the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and his grandmother Elsa was a pioneering… Source link

The Complete (Chicago) Beer Course: Cream Ale

The Complete (Chicago) Beer Course: Cream Ale

When COVID-19 closed taprooms and cancelled festivals, I looked for ways to still engage with Chicago’s craft beer scene. I therefore decided to finally work my way through The Complete Beer Course. Doing so involves the tough job of sampling beers for each style the book details; I’ll balance national (and international) recommendations from author Joshua Bernstein with examples from Chicagoland breweries. Unless otherwise stated, historical background comes from The Complete Beer Course. Style Cream Ale History Lesson You’ll recall from our history lesson on American lagers that 19th Century, German-speaking immigrants brought the art of lager brewing to the New World. Consequently, light-colored pilsners took hold in the U.S. much the way they… Source link

Which fishing line is best for catching fish?

Best fishing lines Nobody likes to spend the day on the water and come home empty-handed. To increase your chances of hooking that catch, you need to make sure you have the right equipment, which includes choosing the best type of fishing line for your skill level, needs and water conditions. There are four types of line: mono, fluoro, braid and copolymer. Types of fishing line Monofilament Monofilament, often referred to as mono by anglers, is crafted from a single fiber of plastic, usually nylon. It is a smart choice for beginners because it is one of the cheapest options, offers good abrasion resistance and is easy to tie into knots. Mono has a bit of stretch to allow it to absorb shocks from hard hits, but this also means it is less sensitive to light bites. Other downsides… Source link

The Similarities and Differences between Websites and Web Applications – Phandroid

The Similarities and Differences between Websites and Web Applications – Phandroid

Experts in both website and web app development are necessary for the internet, tech, and business worlds. These individuals and companies are considered “technical wizards”. Let’s spell out the differences between website and application development. Website Websites are interlinked web pages under one single domain name and published on at least one web server. The web developer develops the website backbone. Websites are globally accessible information-based content on web pages found online.  The basic programming and coding languages needed for website development are HTML (HyperText Markup Language), CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), and JavaScript. For example, CSS manipulates the website’s appearance and static files. A dynamic website transforms constantly and automatically… Source link

Gift ideas for the art lover in your life

Gift ideas for the art lover in your life

Art-lovers can be hard to buy for –People who have artistic sensibilities are often very particular. They may be so particular a color arrangement represents either a desirable or undesirable gift. They could have all the blankets in the world, but not have one in that cool, stark “hunter green” shade they love so much. If you bought them a blanket in that color, they may love it. If you bought them the same blanket in a neon orange color like that worn by hunters in the bush, they may return it or never use it. Artistic people have an aspect to them that may be likened to felines. Cats can be finicky. They prefer chairs, foods, drinks, and particular ways of “cuddling”. The dog could care less, he’s just happy to be included. Well, this isn’t… Source link

Which fishing line is best for catching fish?

Braided lines have very little stretch, so it offers excellent sensitivity to anything happening on the other end. This also means you can securely set hooks no matter what depth you are fishing in. Braid is very strong for its thickness, so you can get a lot on your reel, and it isn’t prone to degrading from constant exposure to UV rays. This means it maintains that break strength for a long time, even if used regularly. Additionally, braided lines have almost no memory, so they won’t retain their coiled shape when they fly off your reel. Source link
