Truth Brigade: Cloaked Science Examples

I will pass over lead drinking water pipes, where we are making real progress in replacing them. We still have leaded aviation fuel for smaller, propeller-driven planes. But nobody actually denies that lead is poisonous any more, and electric airplanes are coming. Sufficient unto the day is the nonsense thereof. Me, with H/T to Jesus. Now, I can’t lay out all of these stories in detail. I hope you will be OK with me giving you the names of the lies, and one or two links each. Google would be happy to give you lots more links, and Wikipedia can give you long lists of references to the real science. How Cloaked Science Works These are metastasizing cancers on our minds. They require advanced chemotherapy that can gradually kill them off without making us too sick at having to… Source link

Cold Fusion — A Science Fair Project | by Patrick Pallagi | data-driven fiction | Jan, 2022

Rendered image of Arc reactors and Spiderman from the Ringer There is a great commercial from Audi where Spiderman goes to a science fair. When he and his friend, Ned arrive they realise they are up against some very serious competition. A simple electric motor they built may not be worth the judges time, so they set out to ask for help from agent Thomas to borrow the greatest electric motor of all time found right inside and black Audi e-tron GT sports car. Peter and Ned then present the electric motor inside the car for the judges and they impress them enough to win second place. Why second place? The first place went to a talented duo that made and jump starting power bank for the Arc reactor out of two potatoes. Genius! It’s that ingenuity that I see in Audi that inspires me to write… Source link

Chris Spoke: Flying cars and cold fusion—why the future we were promised never arrived

My wife and I have been watching The Americans recently. It’s set in the early 1980s and tells the story of two Soviet KGB intelligence officers posing as an American married couple living in a suburb of Washington, DC. The Cold War politics feel pretty distant but the setting is very familiar. I have to remind myself when watching it that 1980 was forty years ago. It’s as far removed from today as it is from 1940. The world changed a lot between 1940 and 1980. Has it changed that much since then? There are of course fewer screens in The Americans than there are today. No smartphones and no tablets, though there are many TVs. But the rooms, the houses, the offices, the restaurants all look and feel largely the same. The planes are the same. The trains are the same. I’m not making an… Source link

Boris Johnson has made the showbiz world look sensible | Times2

This week, social media was filled with a story about Kanye West’s new girlfriend, the actress Julia Fox. “Julia Fox Calls Kanye West Her ‘Fave Makeup Artist’ as He Helps Perfect Actress’ Edgy Look”, as the headline had it. As we can see from a photo of Julia, and the look in question, there are two very obvious conclusions to be drawn here. One — Julia is obviously very, very in love with Kanye. And two — heterosexual men should never be allowed to apply eyeliner to a woman. It may well now be the end of January, but — much like all the parties at Downing Street — it’s only now that details are leaking out about how celebrities spent their Yuletidemas. We turn, Source link

Cybersecurity’s challenge for 2022 is defeating weaponized ransomware

This article is part of a VB special issue. Read the full series here: The metaverse – How close are we? Ransomware attack strategists continue to target zero-day vulnerabilities, execute supply chain attacks, fine-tune vulnerability chaining, and search for vulnerabilities in end-of-life products to improve the odds their ransomware attacks will succeed. Ivanti’s Ransomware Spotlight Year End Report illustrates why ransomware became the fastest-growing cyberattack strategy in 2021 and into 2022. There’s been a 29% growth in ransomware vulnerabilities in just a year, growing from 223 to 288 common vulnerabilities and exposures (CVEs).   Last year, SonicWall recorded a 148% surge in global ransomware attacks (up to 495 million), making 2021 the worst year the company… Source link

What if quantum computing faces a winter?

This article is adapted from Law and Policy for the Quantum Age by Chris Jay Hoofnagle and Simson L. Garfinkel, Cambridge University Press. Headlines regularly hail what appears to be an imminent arrival of large-scale quantum computing. Honeywell spinoff Quantinuum recently announced a performant ion-trap quantum computer. Startups are projecting that they will build ever-larger quantum computing processors and devices. A group of quantum computing companies now make their devices available as cloud services through Amazon. In 2021, the first quantum computing startup went public, listing on the NYSE as IONQ. Meanwhile, governments are pumping billions into quantum information science. In the U.S., much of this support flows through Department of Energy National… Source link

Drag Racing A Go For New Season In Riverhead

RIVERHEAD, NY — Rev your engines, it’s a go: The Riverhead Town board voted Wednesday to approve dates for drag racing this season at Enterprise Park at Calverton. Acccording to Riverhead Town Supervisor Yvette Aguiar, two separate proposals were before the town board. Peter Scalzo, who presented his “Race Track, Not Street,” series last year, is back this year for a Spring Classic on April 2, 3,9, 10 and 16. If there is a rain-out during that series, guests can redeem their ticket for any event later in the series, Scalzo said. Find out what’s happening in Riverhead with free, real-time updates from Patch. The reason no rain date for the Spring Classic is proposed is due to the bird nesting season, which begins on April 15 in New York, Scalzo said. Next, he said, is the Summer Classic,… Source link
