The Energy Report: Cold Fusion

The Energy Report: Cold Fusion

How Cold is it? How cold is it going to get? Pons and Fleishman rejoice! Cold fusion is back! It’s time to give up the oil gig because we will have an endless supply of cheap and clean energy. Way back in 1989, two electrochemists, Martin Fleischmann and Stanley Pons, reported that they created a machine that produced anomalous heat (“excess heat”) of a magnitude they asserted would defy explanation except in terms of nuclear processes. It was cold fusion. Yet they were later dismissed and even ridiculed because others were not able to duplicate that experiment until maybe now. The FT reports that US government scientists have made a breakthrough in the pursuit of limitless, zero-carbon power by achieving a net energy gain in a fusion reaction for the first time, according to… Source link

N-fusion: The clean energy the world needs, but may not get soon enough | Latest News India

In the quest for perfecting the science of nuclear fusion in practice (the theory is well understood), the energy produced has never matched the energy that has gone into the effort. Until now, going by media reports. {{^userSubscribed}} {{/userSubscribed}} {{^userSubscribed}} {{/userSubscribed}} There is much excitement around the US energy department’s expected announcement of a “major scientific breakthrough” on Tuesday, which follows reports, first by the Financial Times and then by several other publications and news agencies, that the California-based Lawrence Livermore National Library (LLNL) has achieved a “net energy gain” from a fusion reactor. While an energy output higher than the input would be a breakthrough in scientific terms, the question that… Source link

Fusion Energy Breakthrough Scam | New Energy Times

Fusion Energy Breakthrough Scam | New Energy Times

Financial Times, among others, reports today “Fusion energy breakthrough by US scientists boosts clean power hopes. Net energy gain indicates technology could provide an abundant zero-carbon alternative to fossil fuels.” It’s a scam folks. The 2.5 megajoules of output energy were produced at the expense of 400 megajoules of input energy. A reactor that loses 98 percent of the energy it consumes does not indicate technology that could provide an abundant zero-carbon alternative to fossil fuels. We have already explained this but it seems that some journalists didn’t get the memo. See our reports #73, #102, #103, #104.     Source link

Transformative advance or cold fusion 2.0?

Transformative advance or cold fusion 2.0?

There’s a major story breaking out of the Department of Energy today. An article in the Financial Times reports that scientists at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory have achieved a gain of energy in an experimental system, releasing 20% more energy than input into a system by lasers. There’s an announcement scheduled by the Department of Energy for Tuesday, presumably triggered by the news getting out in the Financial Times. I am old enough to remember the fraud of cold fusion claims in the 1980s.  At the time scientists in Utah let out news that they had achieved fusion at room temperature.  My father, a chemist, thought it was nonsense. He and thousands of others attempted to reproduce the findings to no avail.  The original results involved experimental… Source link
