Some Sepsis Stuff | Science-Based Medicine

Some Sepsis Stuff | Science-Based Medicine

Sepsis. Bad stuff. Sepsis is when an infection, and occasionally other medical conditions, set off a cascade of out of control inflammation, damaging or destroying any number of organs and often leading to death. As I said, bad stuff. Sepsis, in all its manifestations, has been one of the mainstays of my practice. Sepsis can be transient and respond rapidly to antibiotics and modern ICU supportive care. It can also be a relentless crash and burn, a rapid and uncontrolled spiral into death. I have seen a few young meningococcal patients who were fine at breakfast and dead by dinner. Bad stuff. For whatever reason, patients have recently been made aware of sepsis. For the past few years, it has not been unusual to have been asked by families if the patient was septic. We have

CSX Corp. Stock: A Buy Ahead Of Q3 Earnings (NASDAQ:CSX)

CSX Corp. Stock: A Buy Ahead Of Q3 Earnings (NASDAQ:CSX)

Spencer Platt/Getty Images News CSX Corporation (NASDAQ:CSX) is about to report earnings, so I thought it’d be worthwhile to determine whether or not it makes sense to buy prior to earnings yet again. I did this previously, and it worked out very well, so I thought I’d see if I could have a repeat performance. I’m going to try to forecast the upcoming earnings by looking at the traffic figures to date, the elevated cost of rail transportation, and reviewing those against the performance in 2021. I’m going to take this forecast and then try to determine whether or not the share price is compelling. We’re all pressed for time. I’m sure you’ve got to get back to trying to crack frictionless travel or cold fusion or similar. I’ve been working on a particular Sudoku… Source link

Tether claims no more commercial paper in stablecoin reserves

Tether claims no more commercial paper in stablecoin reserves

Tether, the largest stablecoin by market cap, claims to have completely purged commercial paper from the reserve assets backing its USDT token, although it still won’t submit to an audit that might prove that claim. On October 13th, Tether issued a blog post in which the integrity-challenged firm claimed that as of October 12th it had “eliminated commercial paper from its reserves, replacing these investments with U.S. Treasury Bills (T-Bills).” Tether further claimed that “direct exposure” to T-bills “now makes up the majority of Tether’s reserves.” Commercial paper consists of unsecured promissory notes issued by large corporations seeking to plug short-term financial holes. These IOUs aren’t backed by anything other than the faith that the corporation in question… Source link
