Running Adobe ColdFusion applications on Amazon ECS with blue/green deployments

Introduction Adobe ColdFusion is a web development tool that gives developers the ability to develop and deploy cloud-native applications with ease. In this post, we will demonstrate how you can run your Adobe ColdFusion applications on Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS)  with AWS Fargate, as well as, use AWS CodeDeploy to perform blue/green deployments. By containerizing your web application, you can break apart monolithic applications, accelerate your software development, and modernize your deployment practices using automation. Cring Ransomware Gang Exploits 11-Year-Old ColdFusion Bug

Unidentified threat actors breached a server running an unpatched, 11-year-old version of Adobe’s ColdFusion 9 software in minutes to remotely take over control and deploy file-encrypting Cring ransomware on the target’s network 79 hours after the hack. The server, which belonged to an unnamed services company, was used to collect timesheet and accounting data for payroll as well as to host a number of virtual machines, according to a report published by Sophos and shared with The Hacker News. The attacks originated from an internet address assigned to the Ukrainian ISP Green Floid. “Devices running vulnerable, outdated software are low-hanging-fruit for cyberattackers looking for an easy way into a target,” Sophos principal researcher Andrew Brandt said. “The surprising… Source link

Cring ransomware group exploits ancient ColdFusion server – Sophos News

In an attack recently investigated by Sophos, an unknown threat actor exploited an ancient-in-internet-years vulnerability in an 11-year-old installation of Adobe ColdFusion 9 to take control of the ColdFusion server remotely, then to execute ransomware known as Cring on the server, and against other machines on the target’s network. While several other machines were “bricked” by the ransomware, the server hosting ColdFusion was partially recoverable, and Sophos was able to pull evidence in the form of logs and files from the machine. The server running ColdFusion was running the Windows Server 2008 operating system, which Microsoft end-of-lifed in January, 2020. Adobe declared end-of-life for ColdFusion 9 in 2016. As a result, neither the operating system nor the ColdFusion… Source link

Microsoft’s end-of-summer software security cleanse crushes more than 80 bugs • The Register

Patch Tuesday For its September Patch Tuesday, Microsoft churned out fixes for 66 vulnerabilities, alongside 20 Chromium bugs in Microsoft Edge. Affected products include: Azure, Edge (Android, Chromium, and iOS), Office, SharePoint Server, Windows, Windows DNS, and the Windows Subsystem for Linux. Of these CVEs, three are rated critical, one is rated moderate, and the remainder are considered important. One of the publicly disclosed CVEs, dating back to September 7, resolves a critical zero-day vulnerability in MSHTML, also known as Microsoft’s legacy Trident rendering engine (CVE-2021-40444). The flaw allows an attacker to create a malicious ActiveX control within a Microsoft Office document that hosts the… Source link

The Rise of DOS: How Microsoft Got the IBM PC OS Contract

Perhaps the most controversial aspect of the original IBM PC is how Microsoft ended up with the contract for the operating system. This would eventually make Microsoft’s MS-DOS the standard and set the stage for Microsoft to become the world’s leading PC software company. As usual, there are lots of conflicting reports about the details that made this happen. But it mostly seems to be a case of Bill Gates and his company seeing the right opportunity at the right time and then executing well on the concept. In the early PC market, Microsoft had established itself as the largest producer of computer programming languages, notably with an interpreted version of the BASIC language that had become the default standard on just about every major PC to date. Meanwhile, Digital Research Inc…. Source link
