Cold Fusion Gelateria Opens on Main Street — The Westport Local Press

After six months of a long building process, a new neighbor, Cold Fusion, is open on 178 Main Street. At 11 am Thursday Cold Fusion opened its doors and celebrated a great achievement. This is the second storefront for the manager Eric Emmert. A long time coming for the manager as he has lived in Westport for the past 15 years with his daughters and wife. Cold Fusion opened to diverse crowds with wide age ranges as they all shared their experience outside Cold Fusion where lounge chairs are nicely located. With both of his storefronts, Emmert pushes “all clean label ingredients and zero additives.” With a range of gelato flavors from Key Lime Pie to Emmet’s favorite, Salted Caramel Chocolate Chip. Cold Fusion will be from 11:00 am to 10:30 pm everyday. Cold Fusion is conveniently… Source link

A Wife and Mother Finds a New House and Decides to Move in Alone

At first, Sam delights in her new neighborhood. Like a tourist in Paris, she discovers a bakery and a grocer, “marveling that everything she needed was in walking distance.” But she quickly realizes that she has not merely traded a new house for an old one, she’s abandoned the material safety of the suburbs. Even the money Matt doles out to her — thinking the house and the divorce a momentary whim — can’t protect her, a woman alone, in a neighborhood where “opioid zombies” roam the streets and shots ring out at dawn. But as the months wear on, Sam decides the house has given her purpose. “This was why you came here,” she thinks. “You came here to witness, to see the world and then to act and make it better.” This is, in some ways, familiar territory for Spiotta,… Source link

Superfuture and the Fashion World of the Secret Internet

In 2005, Chris Zaldua was a college student at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, when he discovered Superfuture. He had been searching for information on selvedge denim, the kind of jeans made from vintage looms that mostly existed in Japan. In North America, where the process of hunting for vintage selvedge denim was like crate digging at record stores, a subculture formed comprising peer-vetted aficionados who passed down shared knowledge (and with it taste) that accumulated and distributed across a loose, oral network that was only beginning to map itself online. Wearers took to cuffing their jeans at the ankle, revealing the inner selvedge weave like a cryptic insignia only recognizable to other initiates. The first section Zaldua stumbled upon was dedicated to… Source link

ABC puts off compulsory registration for iview service

Pixabay The Australian Broadcasting Corporation has postponed by at least six months its move to introduce compulsory registration for its online iview service from 1 July onwards. An ABC spokesperson said in a statement on Thursday that the company, which is a fully taxpayer-funded entity, had intended to introduce the mandatory registration during July and August. “[We] decided to slow things down to ensure our audiences understand the benefits they will receive from creating an ABC account and the ways we manage and protect their personal information,” the spokesperson added. iview is a service that allows viewers to see programs that have already been broadcast or, in some cases, which are yet to go to air. Many commercial TV channels have similar services,… Source link

Carolyn Hax: Less-affectionate new girlfriend stirs up yearning for ex

Dear Carolyn: I’m dating the most wonderful guy. I am 25 and have dated several guys over the years but never one like this. If everyone treated each other the way he treats me (and, I think, I treat him), the world would be a happy place. And, it’s not just that he treats me well, but we enjoy the same interests and share similar values and morals. Since the beginning I’ve been having one of those, “Ah, so this is what it’s supposed to be like,” moments. But, after all this gushing, I see these unhappy married couples and I think, they must’ve had the same thoughts I did. What is it that goes wrong? Source link

Moms have superpowers — here are mine – Orange County Register

You know how everyone’s obsessed with superheroes these days? Every other movie is some kind of person with magical powers who combats evil. Even Disneyland has gotten into the action with its new Avengers Campus. Well, I was climbing the stairs to my front door yesterday, and it occurred to me that I, too, have a superhero power. Nowadays, I’m incredibly slow and gimpy. I walk slowly, I climb slowly and with great precision, I think slowly, well, you get the idea. The only thing I don’t do slowly is drink margaritas. I mean, there’s a limit to everyone’s abilities. The advantage to my companions is that they have plenty of time to do other things while they’re with me.  My friend invented cold fusion the other day while she waited for me to climb out of the car and get to… Source link
